The Ramp

Even though this project is fairly easy to design and build, requiring no special knowledge, I am proud of building it because I made it back in 2009, when I was 13 years old. I decided to build this ramp for my new model jeep radio-controlled car.

The first step was to design it on paper under scale. I then decided on the size (length, width and height) as well as the type of wood required and went with my mother to place my order at the local wood shop. I then cut the plywood at either side of the ramp in the desired shape with a jigsaw and then screwed pieces of wood between the two pieces of plywood. First one at the corner, then one at the top and one at the bottom and then all the in-between along the down side of it at the curved side. I then screwed the thin piece of plywood in place and cut off the extra length. Finally, I added vertically some pieces of wood on the back part of the ramp to provide extra support.

After building this ramp at age 13, I realized that I enjoyed building things and I would love to become a hands-on engineer some day.
